Lara Cameron, the central character of the story belongs to a poor family. Her mother died when she was born and her father was very cold to her throughout his life. When her father dies she takes a loan and builds her own building.

With her hard work, intelligence and the help of some well-wishers she earns herself a very high status. She fall in love with a famous pianist “Philip Adler” during her journey from a poor girl to an estate owner she also makes some adversaries, which later on threatens her reputation, happiness and business.

Strength, emotions, anger, diligence and intelligence make Lara a perfect Sheldon girl. It seems as though Sheldon has observed women, very closely, and he has been successful in understanding woman. The language of the novel is very simple and it is a very good choice, to read, if someone does not have a huge vocabulary
